About Us
We are a well-established and growing law firm with a team of around 100 professionals. As we continue to scale, we are creating a new role for a Credit Controller to take ownership of our debt recovery processes and implement strong credit control practices for the future.
The Role
Working Pattern: Part-time (minimum 3 days per week)
Reports to: Head of Dispute Resolution and Insolvency
Salary: Circa £30,000 (full-time equivalent)
Contract Type: Permanent
This is a unique opportunity to establish and lead the credit control function in a professional services environment, working closely with the existing accounts team. You’ll be responsible for managing accounts receivable, recovering historic debt, and embedding clear and effective systems. You’ll deal with a wide range of clients—from individuals managing emotionally sensitive matters (e.g. probate, wills) to commercial clients—requiring both empathy and assertiveness.
Key Responsibilities
* Review, assess, and recover outstanding and historic debt.
* Develop and implement efficient and ethical credit control processes and systems working closely and collaboratively with the accounts team.
* Create systems to carry out and maintain proactive chasing of debt by all appropriate means of communication.
* Work cross-functionally with wider internal teams to ensure compliance and billing discipline.
* Maintain accurate client account data and produce clear reporting.
* Tailor communication approach based on the nature of the client and debt.
* Monitor debtor days and provide regular reports to senior leadership.
* Lead system/process improvement and support training for best practice.
About You
* Proven experience in credit control, ideally within professional services (legal, accountancy, consultancy).
* Skilled at balancing empathy and firmness when managing debt.
* Process-driven with the ability to take initiative and introduce improvements.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills, especially over the phone.
* Comfortable implementing and using credit control software and reporting tools.
