Role Overview
The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running, safety, and upkeep of the Bodmin Jail Museum and its grounds. This role requires a hands-on, proactive individual with broad practical skills across multiple trades, including gardening, woodwork, electrics, plumbing, and general building maintenance. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and a strong sense of pride in maintaining a historic and visitor-facing site.
Key Responsibilities
* Daily Maintenance & Upkeep
* Carry out routine inspections of the museum, grounds, and facilities.
* Perform day-to-day repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general building upkeep.
* Maintain cleanliness and presentation standards in public and back-of-house areas.
* Gardening & Grounds Care
* Ensure gardens, pathways, and external spaces are well maintained, safe, and visually appealing.
* Undertake seasonal planting, pruning, weeding, and lawn care.
* Installations & Projects
* Assist with setting up exhibitions, displays, and installations.
* Support with event preparations and dismantling when required.
* Carry out "making good" tasks after installations or maintenance work.
* Health, Safety & Compliance
* Proactively identify and address potential hazards and maintenance issues.
* Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations.
* Carry out basic risk assessments for tasks as required.
* Teamwork & Support
* Work closely with the Operations to ensure a high-quality visitor environment.
* Provide maintenance support during events, tours, and seasonal activities.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience in a similar maintenance role, ideally within heritage sites, hospitality, or visitor attractions.
* Strong practical skills in woodworking, plumbing, electrics, and general repairs.
* Gardening knowledge and ability to maintain outdoor spaces.
* Proactive problem solver with excellent attention to detail.
* Ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
* Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
* Flexible attitude, with willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.
