Please apply early to avoid disappointment. We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and empathetic Player Care Manager to join our dynamic team. This pivotal role will be responsible for comprehensive welfare and logistical support to all first-team players and coaching staff, ensuring their smooth integration into the club and local community and fostering an environment where they can thrive both on and off the pitch. The Player Care Manager will act as a central point of contact for players, addressing their needs and alleviating distractions, allowing them to focus fully on their performance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES · Player Integration & Onboarding: o Facilitate the smooth transition of new players (and families) into the club and local area, including: § Assisting with housing arrangements (rentals, purchases, temporary accommodation) § Supporting with school placements for children § Registering with local doctors, dentists, and other essential services § Providing guidance on banking, insurance, and other administrative tasks § Introducing players to key club staff and local amenities o Develop and implement a comprehensive induction program for all new signings · Welfare & Well-being Support: o Act as a confidential and trusted point of contact for all player welfare matters. o Provide emotional support and guidance to players facing personal challenges (homesickness, injury recovery, family issues) o Liaise with external specialists (counsellors, therapists, financial advisors) as required, ensuring appropriate support is available o Organise and facilitate educational workshops on topics such as mental health, social media use, financial literacy, and career development o Monitor player well-being and proactively identify potential issues, escalating to relevant departments where necessary · Logistical Support: o Manage and coordinate player travel arrangements (domestic and international) for matches, training camps, and personal reasons o Assist with visa applications and immigration requirements for international players o Support with vehicle arrangements (leasing, insurance, maintenance) o Handle general administrative tasks and provide practical assistance to players as needed o To ensure Player appearances are organised and completed in a professional manner o To arrange and take responsibly for all player ticketing needs on match day · Family & Partner Support: o Extend support to players' families and partners, helping them integrate into the club community and local area o Organise social events and initiatives for players and their families · Relationship Management: o Build strong, trusting relationships with all players, their agents, and their families o Collaborate closely with the coaching staff, medical team, sports science department and other relevant club personnel to ensure a holistic approach to player support o Act as a liaison between players and various club departments · Policy & Compliance: o Ensure all player care activities comply with club policies, FA regulations, and league rules o Maintain accurate and confidential records of player interactions and support provided MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION Abilities/Skills/Knowledge: · Essential: o Proven experience (minimum 3-5 years) in a player care, welfare, or pastoral support role within a professional sports environment, preferably football o Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly o Strong empathy, discretion, and a non-judgmental approach o Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively o Proactive and resourceful, with a "can-do" attitude o A high degree of integrity and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). o Full UK driving license and access to a car · Desirable: o Understanding of football culture and the unique demands placed on professional athletes o Experience working with international athletes and an understanding of different cultural nuances o Knowledge of local amenities and services in South East London o Additional language skills Safeguarding Charlton Athletic Football club are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
