Job Description:

The FIA is seeking an experienced Materials Scientist to join its Single Seater Technical Department.

This role will reinforce the FIA’s expertise in composite and metallic materials, supporting the Formula One Technical Regulations and the broader Single Seater pyramid (F2, F3, F4, FR).

The position is based in Geneva, with travel to Grands Prix and Team and Power-unit premises.


Responsibilities:

* Establish internal expertise in materials (composites, metals, plastics) and manufacturing processes.
* Create and maintain a materials database for structural analysis.
* Provide expert input to safety, aerodynamics, sustainability, and health & safety departments.
* Identify testing needs, define specifications, source equipment, and develop external partnerships.
* Lead and update the Materials Articles of the F1 Technical Regulations aligned with FIA goals (safety, sustainability, affordability, performance).
* Collaborate with F1 Teams, Power Unit Manufacturers, and other stakeholders to ensure regulations are practical and enforceable.
* Ensure regulations comply with international health and safety laws.
* Work with the Sustainability Department, Teams, and suppliers to set sustainability and circularity standards.


Scrutineering and Race Support:

* Perform inspections and audits for regulatory compliance in materials usage.
* Support on-site inspections at races and tests (training provided).


Candidate Profile:

* Master’s degree or higher in Materials Science.
* At least 5 years of experience in motorsport or aerospace fields.
* Fluent in English; basic French skills are a plus.
* Deep knowledge of composite and metallic materials and their manufacturing processes.
* Experience with testing methods (analytical, mechanical, non-destructive).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of drafting technical documents.
* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced international environment.
* Organized, proactive, and passionate about engineering innovation.
