Specialist Pharmacist, Orthopaedics
Location: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service
Band 7 | 1.0 WTE | 37 hrs/week
£48,788 - £56,747 pro-rata per annum (including weekend, on‑call and public holiday rota commitments)
About The Role
The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is a large teaching hospital known for its excellence across various specialist services. The Orthopaedic Unit provides multidisciplinary care to patients across four trauma wards and an elective ward. As part of our dynamic pharmacy team, you will work closely with Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons, Ortho‑Geriatricians, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Arthroplasty Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Antimicrobial teams.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
 * Delivering high‑quality clinical pharmacy services to trauma and elective orthopaedic patients.
 * Contributing to the development and delivery of pharmacy services in response to emerging challenges around site capacity and patient flow.
 * Working as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, where pharmacists have an established role in non‑medical prescribing.
 * Optimising medications in the peri‑operative period and collaborating with the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) team to promote safe transfer of care between care sectors.

About You
Essential Qualifications And Experience
 * A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent).
 * Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
 * Completed training or equivalent competence mapped to the statutory role.

 * Experience in proactively influencing prescribing, using clinical knowledge to optimise patient care.
 * A strong patient‑focused approach, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
