This post is for a part-time Band 7 Clinical Educator for Savannah Neurosciences and Inherited Metabolic Diseases. We specialise in caring for children with a variety of neurological conditions, including encephalitis, epilepsy and motor disorders. We also care for children with rare inherited metabolic conditions.
Our nursing team consists of registered nurses and senior nursing assistants, with varying levels of experience. Our staff are very keen to further develop their skills and knowledge in order to provide high quality care to our patients and your role will be to facilitate this.
We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic nurse who has passion and experience in education and the speciality, and has an interest in the continued development of the nursing profession.
The role of the clinical educator will be to continue facilitation of relevant training, reviewing the education gap analysis and work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a high level of education. The candidate will need to have some clinical experience of the conditions frequently seen on the ward, in order to deliver tailored support and education for our staff.
You will be supported with gaining new skills with the opportunity to also focus on your own professional development, in order to help you meet the needs of our ward.
You will also be working closely with the Evelina Education Team .
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a source of highly specialist clinical and educational knowledge and will provide clinical supervision.
You will be responsible for the development and co-ordination of training programmes for staff in conjunction with Evelina Education Team.
You will work closely with Ward Sister and Matron to ensure training programes are established to train staff and meet statutory training requirements, as well as individual service training needs and personal development.
We have a number of newly qualified nurses, and you will tailor a programme of orientation for new staff members and arrange an ongoing programme of training for qualified and unqualified staff, working closely with other wards within the Medicine directorate as part of the ongoing integration.
Previous experience in clinical education is highly recommended, but not essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will need to lead and take continuing responsibility for the in-service development of all nursing staff working on the ward.
To provide leadership and motivation to establish clinical practices, which is research/evidence-based and lead to standard setting and regular audit in line with the Trust’s commitment to Clinical Governance.
To monitor and review clinical and professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and instituting remedial action where necessary.
The post holder will need to be confident working with multidisciplinary health professionals both face to face and via virtual platforms.
