Technical Lead – Repair Design Engineer (Rotating Components)
Hybrid work: Weekly 2 days onsite at Aberdeen, UK, and the rest remote.
Job Description
* A Technical Lead - Repair plays a crucial role in the Gas Turbine and Rotary Machine industry, supporting OEM projects worldwide, including Derby.
* The Technical Lead - Repair is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of repairs for the gas turbine engine fleet.
* The team supports repair shops to meet financial targets and improve repair capabilities.
* The Repair Engineer is an individual contributor who makes decisions, applies concepts, and resolves issues on assigned projects guided by established policies, procedures, standards, and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
* Developing and implementing repair solutions for gas turbine components to meet operational demands and business objectives.
* Analyzing non-conformances and supporting engine overhauls through component repairs.
* Recommending inspection methods, modifying repair documentation, and updating engine repair manuals.
* Interpreting engineering drawings and applying GD&T principles, including tolerance stack-up analysis.
* Collaborating with global teams in design, stress analysis, materials, and systems engineering to ensure repair feasibility and industrialization.
* Preparing and delivering technical data presentations to stakeholders and leadership.
* Ensuring documentation and compliance with engineering policies, export controls, and IP standards.
* Promoting open communication and continuous improvement across teams.
Technical Expertise:
* Understanding of gas turbine operation in land and marine sectors.
* Knowledge of engine development testing, certification, airworthiness, and safety regulations.
* Experience with technical databases, engineering documentation, and repair development tools.
* Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Excel Macros, NX, Teamcenter, PDM, and SAP is advantageous.
Educational Background, Relevant Experience, and Skills:
* Bachelor's / Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
* Experience in a similar role within Aerospace and Rotary Machinery industries.
* Background in heavy engineering, power transmission, land and marine gas turbines.
* Strong knowledge of quality management systems and standards.
* Skilled in root cause and failure mode analysis techniques.
* Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
* Detail-oriented with a focus on teamwork, quality, and continuous improvement.
