Please review the eligibility criteria on gov.uk before applying.
HCSWs in this team are lone workers, responsible for caring for children with complex needs after comprehensive training. Duties may include overnight care, school support, or working with other team members to provide complete care and breaks for parents.
After training and competency assessment, HCSWs will independently care for children with medical needs such as tracheostomies, gastrostomies, medications, and oxygen therapy.
Shift times vary based on the child's needs, including days, nights, and weekends, over a 24-hour period. Night-only shifts are also considered. The team operates within the Children’s Complex Needs Nursing Service, delivering care across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Applicants require a valid UK driving licence or access to a vehicle, as travel between community settings is necessary. Travel expenses are reimbursed according to trust policy. Bases are located in Burnley and Preston.
The ideal candidates will be organized, able to work independently and in teams, adaptable, calm under pressure, and flexible. Experience in healthcare, social care, or education with children is preferred. An NVQ3 in care or equivalent is desirable, but full training will be provided.
This role is highly rewarding, involving caring for children in their homes and schools, providing support, personal care, and engaging through play. Some children have additional health needs requiring full training to be provided.
You will receive support from an experienced management team, peer support, opportunities to work with specialists, and a personal and professional development plan.
Career progression from HCSW to Nursing Associate is available. Regular reviews, team training days, and well-being sessions are part of the support offered.
This is an NHS service offering staff benefits such as enhanced pay for nights and weekends, pension, sick leave, annual leave, and access to training.
