What is the job?
The trainee chef assists the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of their section. This is a great opportunity for someone starting their career and wanting to build experience in a hotel kitchen. Responsibilities include ensuring food preparation, production, and service meet high standards and comply with hygiene regulations. When busy, equipment like pots and pans must be cleaned quickly and ready for use. Kitchen Porters work as part of a team but also need to be proactive in resolving issues. The environment is high-paced, so remaining calm under pressure is essential.

About The Role
Your day to day
* Assist in daily operations of their section
* Understand and apply HACCP and COSHH standards
* Accurately record temperature readings daily
* Maintain equipment and ensure safety and hygiene standards
* Adhere to cleaning schedules and hygiene checks
* Ensure food quality matches menu specifications
* Maintain personal hygiene and grooming standards
* Support a neutral, inclusive working environment
* Participate in training to improve standards
* Follow departmental procedures and report hazards or damages
Kitchen Porter Duties
* Operate dishwashing equipment and perform maintenance
* Keep the kitchen clean and hygienic
* Sanitize surfaces, sweep floors, and manage waste
* Store goods correctly following safety standards
* Handle deliveries and stock management
* Follow safety procedures for hazardous substances
* Report broken equipment or safety concerns
* Wear appropriate uniform and name badge

Skills Needed
* Experience in hospitality
* NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation or similar qualification
* Hygiene certification
* Experience working in a professional kitchen environment
* Good communication skills
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
* Team player with the ability to work independently
* Follow instructions effectively
