Building Surveyor
Location: Gosport
Pay: £33 per hour (PAYE); £37.04 per hour (CIS)
Contract: Expected to run until June 2026
You will be based at our Gosport Town Hall within a Property Services team reporting to the Senior Building Surveyor.
You will carry out a wide range of duties across our varied 3,000+ housing stock, together with our asset portfolio of corporate operational, commercial and community assets.
You will predominantly be attending day to day repairs, updating stock data, evaluating and diagnosing what work is required, assessing the best options to carry out the work and issuing response repairs.
Responsibilities
* Attend day-to-day repairs across housing stock and assets.
* Update stock data and carry out stock surveys and measured surveys as appropriate.
* Evaluate and diagnose required works, assess best options, issue response repairs.
* Manage contractors and use contract knowledge to negotiate matters and resolve disputes.
* Apply cost control techniques, prepare cost estimates for larger repair work, exercise financial control, and assess value for money on repairs.
* Analyse and evaluate previous repair information to inform decisions.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Demonstrable relevant experience and knowledge of general day-to-day response repairs in a housing or commercial environment.
* Strong building construction technology and building pathology knowledge; ability to evaluate and diagnose required works and advise on options.
* Knowledge of building-related legislation as appropriate to the role and ability to apply it as necessary.
* Knowledge and experience of construction-related health & safety legislation; able to apply Working at Height Regulations and Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
* Practical surveying skills, including stock data and measured surveys with accurate data recording.
* Ability to manage a contractor using a contract, negotiate contractual matters, and resolve disputes.
* Knowledge and experience of cost control techniques and commercial awareness for cost estimates and value for money; able to audit completed repairs and interrogate previous information.
Additional
* Must hold a full current driving licence and have a car available; essential car user allowance paid when duties justify it.
* Occasional need to work outside normal working hours.
