We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.Job overviewAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6-month secondment for the position of Retrieval Practitioner within the Adult Critical Care Emergency Support Service (ACCESS).ACCESS is an adult critical care transfer service focused on safe, consistent and expert-led transfer of critically ill patients across the capital.
We work with London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS), the London integrated commissioning boards and associated critical care networks to provide a transfer service for critically ill patients throughout London 24 hours a day. Transfer teams are currently operational within the four geographical sectors of London, operating under the oversight of Bart's Health, as the host trust. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in any of the four geographical sectors, based on their individual requirements, objectives, and preferences.
The ACCESS Team include one transfer doctor, one transfer practitioner, and two LAS crew, all led by two Duty Consultants who provide close support and expertise each day. The post-holder will maintain a high standard of critical care clinical skills and provide clinical leadership to support the delivery of individualised, patient-centred care during transfer.

knowledge and skills to safely transfer patients from the Critical Care environment to the agreed destination· Adhere to all ACCESS policies and guidelines and be able to utilise them to meet care needs.· Adhere to National Guidance· Ensure swift response times aiming to meet the mobilisation standard.· Ensure completion of local and national data collection.· Checking of transfer equipment to ensure everything is working and prompt mobilisation time is maintained.· Monitor resources ensuring consumables are adequately stocked· Contribute to the servicing and troubleshooting of all equipment, to maintain a safe working order.· Contribute to safe transfer service delivery through feedback and surveillanceof FLAG’s, Datix’s and incidents· Maintain patient’s privacy and dignity at all times· To ensure dissemination of complex information through clear and effective channels of communication, between all members of the multidisciplinary team.· Be able to recognise own limitations and seek appropriate help.· To understand and practice effective team working· Demonstrate proficiency in the use of all equipment used in the care andmanagement of transferring critically unwell patients, be able to explain their use· Demonstrate proficient specialist skills and knowledge in clinical practice· Develop skills in accordance with the expanded role of Rotational Critical Care Retrieval PractitionerEDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES· Act as a mentor working with observers and MDT staff in a way that is supportive and facilitates reflective learning towards effective practice.· Contribute to the teaching programmes associated with ACCESS· Contribute to development of the transfer service, through guidelines and audit.PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES· Maintain own professional development to ensure that all practice is based on current knowledge and relevant research.· Uphold the NMC/HCPC code of practice and be aware of the implications of the scope of practice.· Promote clinical supervision and reflective practice for self and members of the ACCESS team.· Be an ambassador for ACCESS when working in referring hospitals, meeting professionals in other organisations and when interacting with members of the public.· Promote effective inter-professional teamwork to optimise patient care, staff development and support.· To support duty of candour where appropriate, in conjunction with the relevant clinical manager.Person specificationEducation / QualificationsEssential criteria- Practicing Registered Nurse/ODP/Band 6 Paramedic- Post-registration qualification in Critical Care/Emergency care for NMC registered Staff- Evidence of on-going professional developmentDesirable criteria- Masters level study- ALS Provider- Teaching/mentorship qualificationSkills/ AbilitiesEssential criteria- Extensive and recent clinical experience in Critical Care, ED and Pre-hospital- Good oral and written skills.- Ability to supervise and support junior colleagues.- Ability to problem-solve and initiate change in patient management.- Able to recognise own limitations and seek help.- Self-motivated- Able to assert self professionally in a non-confrontational manner- Able to work as part of team.- Ability to cope with and deal with stress in self and recognise this in others.- Confident to challenge non
