* A Clinical Fellowrole focused on general cardiology, offering opportunities for foundational subspecialty training in imaging, coronary angiography, pacemaker implantation, and heart failure therapies. This position is ideal for trainees at the ST5+ level who are developing their competencies and preparing for higher subspecialty training applications.
Clinical fellows will be involved in the registrar-of-the-week rota for inpatient care and will participate in the cardiology on-call service, including assisting with primary PCI procedures.
Main duties of the job
Cardiac procedural services is mainly based on the MMUH, the appointee will be predominately working at MMUH with session at city health campus and Sandwell Health campus. The weeks of in-patient ward duty will be rostered approximately 1 in 15. The post-holder will also be required to work to a 1 in 15 cardiology resident on-call Rota with compensatory rest post on call. Office and access to computer facilities and administrative support will be available.
MMUH has state of art biplane cath labs (Siemens) with the installation of the third cath lab in process (functional by early 2026). There are well established interventional, imaging (CMR, CTCA, echo and stress echo) and pacing (including subcut-ICD) departments at MMUH, the latter two also across the previous sites City and Sandwell hospitals.

Job responsibilities
The Cardiology Unit at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is fully equipped for advanced interventional procedures, bradycardia pacing, complex device implantation, and sophisticated imaging techniques such as complex echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, and cardiac MRI. These posts are suitable for candidates seeking to strengthen their experience in preparation for securing a National Training Number (NTN) or completing the CESR pathway.
The principal clinical duties of the appointee will be:-
a) General cardiology service Registrar of Week, AMU referrals and review of cardiology patients on wards at MMUH.
b) 1 session of supervised ECHO/TOE/Stress sessions
c) 1 session of Coronary angiogram/2nd operator PCI session and pacing session.
d) 1 session of CTCA/CMR/MPI are also available and could be included if required
e) Participating in the overall care of cardiac in and out-patients (2 clinics per week).
f) To participate in Cardio thoracic MDTs, PCI and scheduling meetings in a constructive manner.
g) Active participation in departmental audit and research activities.
h) To participate in the teaching program for medical students and junior doctors.
i) The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of the department.
The department includes 19 full-time Consultant Cardiologists and 2 Professors of Cardiology, with strong academic and research collaborations with Birmingham University and Aston University. More information about our activities can be found on our website.

Qualifications:
* Basic Medical Qualification( e.g. MBBS or MB ChB)
* MRCP or Equivalent
* BSE accreditation
* CTCA level 2
Clinical Experience:
* Extensive full time Cardiology training (or Equivalent) with competent in Transthoracic Echocardiography
* Achieved competencies at completion of ST5 level (or equivalent) in Cardiology
* Specialist Training registrars
* Experience in CTCA and CMR
Clinical Effectiveness
* Experience of conducting clinical audit
* Led audit projects and completed audit cycle
Teaching and Training experience:
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
* Higher teaching qualification
Other Requirements:
* Full GMC Registration
* Ability to participate on an on call rota
