Job Description:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through varied work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers providing legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will manage a full and varied caseload.
Senior Lawyers will participate in team management, deputise for the Principal Solicitor, and contribute to delivering high-quality legal services.
We seek dynamic individuals with experience in managing and supervising teams, motivating others, and working collaboratively.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must be Solicitors, barristers, or Fellows of CILEX, eligible to practice in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate. Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services is required. The ability to provide solutions-focused advice, learn quickly, and manage priorities is essential. Effective team working, client engagement, and advising Members and Senior Officers are also important.
The role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, with the first day at our Reigate office to collect equipment.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees. It contributes to the wider Legal Services management and embodies the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a demanding caseload, deliver innovative solutions, and support the council's goal to reduce reliance on external legal support. Advocacy may be required, and the role supports the Monitoring Officer in legal compliance issues. Training staff on legal updates and emerging issues is also part of the role.
