Job Description:
We are seeking a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills through varied and quality work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers providing proactive legal advice on issues including Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC's and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will handle a diverse and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers will participate in team management and deputise for the Principal Solicitor, contributing to the delivery of high-quality legal services.
We are looking for an effective, dynamic individual with some experience in managing and supervising teams, motivating others, and working collaboratively.
Shortlisting Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
* Eligibility to practice in England and Wales as a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, with a current practicing certificate
* Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services
* Ability to provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects
* Effective teamwork and managing priorities to meet statutory deadlines
* Leadership and organizational skills in client and project meetings
* Advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council
This role is hybrid, with remote work considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate will need to collect their laptop from the Reigate office on the first day.
The role involves managing a team of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
You will contribute to the wider management of Legal Services, embodying the council's values and behaviours.
Managing a full caseload and delivering innovative solutions with minimal supervision are key responsibilities.
You will support the council's aim to reduce reliance on external legal support and may be required to undertake advocacy.
The role includes assisting the Monitoring Officer in legal compliance and contributing to staff training on legal issues.
