Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lightning/Electrical Engineer to join our Consulting Energy, Lighting & Technology Practice. We welcome applications from across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham, London, Nottingham, Bristol, Exeter, Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle and Yorkshire.

Amey Consulting is the design partner supporting Transport Scotland in the delivery of the South West and North East Trunk Road Network Management Contracts, and Intelligent Transport Infrastructure. These long‑term contracts involve designing some of the largest civil engineering projects in Scotland.

We also work with National Highways on a £3.6 bn scheme, providing Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network, and with local authorities on LED upgrade programmes and electric vehicle strategy design.


The role

As a Lighting/Electrical Engineer at Amey Consulting, you will see your work from early design to the very end result, and every project will be different from the last.


Responsibilities

* Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief.
* Undertake a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance.
* Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements.
* Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements, and ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable.
* Drive effective health and safety practices within your team.
* Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
* Supervise, mentor and develop team members.
* Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming.
* Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees.
* Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.
* Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees.
* Effective management and response of project related correspondence.
* Checks to ensure compliance with the integrated management system and assist in development.
* Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports).
* Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options.
* Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability.
* Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team and progression with your chosen professional institution.


Qualifications

* You have made progress towards completion of a formal professional training programme with an appropriate professional body.
* You are able to demonstrate experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent.
* You are able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working under supervision.
* You are experienced in following procedures associated with health, safety and welfare.
* You are able to comply with technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment.
