Community Diagnostics Technician (12 months fixed term)

* Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative are involved in the delivery of Community Diagnostics, the role is to support patients through a diagnostic pathway. Community Diagnostics is a group of diagnostic test and procedures that require skills and competencies to provide the diagnostics interpret results and direct patients to next stages.
* To support the Community Diagnostic Services in the delivery of services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
* The Technician will support and deliver required and specific clinical tests,observationsand interventions to patients.


Main duties of the job

* As a Technician you will work closely with the CDCs registered nurses and Service Lead.
* You will assist the team in maintaining a safe and effective environment.
* You will utilise clinical skills and judgement whilst assisting with the patient care across several pathways for diagnostic testing.
* Managing the requirements of the patients, following set protocols and delivery of specified actions. This includes using the practice computer systems for input of information for recall and screening purposes. Accurate and efficient input of data for contract purposes is also required
* Aid the service team with implementation of new initiatives in the delivery of Community Diagnostic procedures.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

* Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative are involved in the delivery of Community Diagnostics, the role is to support patients through a diagnostic pathway. * To support the Community Diagnostic Services in the delivery of services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.
* The Technician will support and deliver required and specific clinical tests, observations and interventions to patients.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

* As a Technician you will work closely with the CDCs registered nurses and Service Lead.
* You will assist the team in maintaining a safe and effective environment.
* You will utilise clinical skills and judgement whilst assisting with the patient care across several pathways for diagnostic testing.
* Managing the requirements of the patients, following set protocols and delivery of specified actions. This includes using the practice computer systems for input of information for recall and screening purposes. Accurate and efficient input of data for contract purposes is also required.
* Aid the service team with implementation of new initiatives in the delivery of Community Diagnostic procedures.
* Encourage the development of integrated services within Primary Care to include integrated practice-based teams and multidisciplinary working.
* Recognise the opportunities for working in partnership with the Primary Health and secondary care teams.
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion using opportunities such as new-patient diagnostics.
* Continued development to learn new skills as the service evolves
* Clinical skills will include some or all of the following (this list is not exhaustive):
* Warfarin (INR) monitoring(Point of Care Testing)
* 24 Hour Testing such as sleep studies, 24 blood pressure, 24 ECGs
* 12ECG
* BT, BP and Weight
* Support the implementation of evidence-based guidelines in conjunction with the rest of the clinical team
* Participate in an annual appraisal.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Healthcare qualification or equivalent level


Experience

* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years


Clinical Knowledge & Skills

* ECGs
* Venepuncture
* Chaperone procedure
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes
* New patient medicals including height, weight, BP, pulse


General Skills

* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Clear, polite telephone manner
* Effective time management (Planning & Organising)
* Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
* Good interpersonal skills
* Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
* Competent in the use of patient record management systems
* Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
