We are seeking a dedicated and experienced BSL Teaching Assistant to provide full-time, 1:1 support for a Year 6 student within a welcoming mainstream primary school in Newham.
The student has a cochlear implant and communicates primarily through British Sign Language (BSL) and lip reading. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting their learning, communication, and overall school experience.
The role:
* Provide consistent 1:1 support for a Year 6 student throughout the school day
* Use BSL to facilitate communication, learning, and social interaction
* Support the student in accessing the curriculum alongside their peers
* Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals
* Contribute to creating an inclusive and positive classroom environment
The person we're looking for:
* BSL Level 2 (minimum) qualification is essential
* Experience supporting children or young people with hearing loss in an educational setting
* Ability to adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility
* Strong communication and teamwork skills, working effectively with staff, parents, and professionals
* Patience, empathy, and commitment to supporting student progress and independence
