Minimum qualifications
* Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
* 2 years of experience in electrical, mechanical/HVAC, or controls/automation in an industrial/commercial environment.
* Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, using safety equipment such as limited weight‑bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
* Ability to work non‑standard hours and work rotations/shifts.
Preferred qualifications
* Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
* Experience maintaining mechanical systems, keeping safety systems reliable, or maintaining building infrastructure.
* Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.
* Ability to analyze data and root‑cause problems, helping to prevent future issues.
About the Job
The Data Center team designs and operates sophisticated electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems in Google data centers. Facilities Technicians operate, monitor and support physical facility conditions, including heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. They inspect, maintain and repair data center systems such as piping and non‑critical electrical or mechanical components, and provide daily assistance to senior technicians by reading blueprints/schematics, conducting tours of systems, and assessing working order. They develop creative approaches to reduce operational costs, improve efficiency, and ensure environmental and safety standards are met, managing performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time.
Responsibilities
* Inspect, maintain, and repair various data center systems such as piping and mechanical system components.
* Provide daily assistance to technicians as you read blueprints/schematics/sequence of operations, conduct tours of systems, and assess their working order.
* Manage the uptime and maintenance of water pumps and treatment systems, HVAC and control and monitoring systems.
* Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in the data center facilities systems and equipment.
* Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.
