Overview

Start your Communications career with Thames Water. Kick‑start your future as a Communications Assistant Apprentice. You’ll rotate across media, internal comms, marketing, incident comms, local engagement, and public affairs - building broad experience while working toward a Level 4 Public Relations & Communications Assistant qualification.


Responsibilities

* Support planning and delivery of internal and external comms campaigns.
* Draft press releases, newsletters, social posts, and other content.
* Monitor media coverage and compile summaries.
* Contribute to digital updates, website content, and creative ideas.
* Organise comms data and assist with stakeholder activities.
* Take part in team meetings and ongoing training as you develop your skills.


Location & Working Hours

Location: Clearwater Court Reading RG1 8DB – Hybrid. Hours: 36 hours a week across four working days plus one off‑the‑job training day. Start date: Sept 2026.


Training & Qualification

You’ll study with Oxford Professional Education, one of the UK’s leading communications training providers. Your training includes 2 live online workshops per month, supported by a one‑to‑one monthly trainer meeting with our subject experts.

Qualification: Public relations and communications assistant Level 4 Standard – this aligns with Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) criteria for Individual Membership. Duration: Permanent contract with a 14–16‑month structured programme.


Requirements

* Has 5 GCSE Maths and English (grade 9‑4 / A‑C).
* 48 UCAS Points from a related subject area.
* Interest in public relations, communications, or media.
* Can manage time well and stay organised.
* Is passionate about learning and aligned with Thames Water’s goals for the future.

* Excellent salary: £22,500 annum.
* Annual Leave: 24 days holiday per year increasing to 28 with length of service (plus bank holidays).
