Job Description
SS8 Networks is seeking a Senior Services Engineer with hands‑on experience in installation, maintenance, problem management, testing and documentation of the SS8 portfolio of infrastructure supporting intelligence products. The role focuses on integrating the SS8 product set within telecommunications and LEA networks, which are deployed on Linux platforms in standalone, Kubernetes or cloud environments. The successful candidate will work onsite in the Farnborough office for a minimum of 3 days a week, travel domestically and internationally as required, and possess or be willing to obtain security clearance.
Duties / Responsibilities
* Assist other engineers with advanced troubleshooting and testing new installation procedures and products.
* Perform field installation and support of SS8 products.
* Provide remote support to the customer base.
* Assist customers with upgrades of hardware and software.
* Serve as the interface for New Product Introduction.
* Help customers with equipment configuration and scripting automation.
* Provide training on product operation, one‑on‑one or in small groups.
* Work closely with other groups to ensure successful and high customer satisfaction.
* Manage local network infrastructure and deploy and maintain remote connectivity to customer networks from the local support office.
* Maintain and enhance customer monitoring tools.
* Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide 24/7 support.
* Travel 25–50 % of the time (domestic and international).
* Test, troubleshoot, isolate and provide additional information to engineering to resolve customer product issues.
* Collaborate with the Implementation Manager to improve deployment methods and processes.
* Document and provide knowledge transfer information across multiple groups within and outside SS8.
Essential Competencies / Skills
* Technical understanding of network and IT security.
* Ability to manage processes to successful conclusion.
* Experience with Tier 1 customer service provider networks and live business‑critical systems.
* Strong knowledge of IP protocols at the packet level and familiarity with packet capture tools such as Wireshark.
* Strong ability to analyse log files and follow troubleshooting paths to resolve faults.
* Proficiency with Linux operating systems (RedHat or similar variant).
* Fundamentals of networking: LAN/WAN, routers, switches, firewalls.
* Self‑motivated with effective time‑management and independent work capability.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable Competencies / Skills
* Broad knowledge of regulatory compliance.
* Some experience with scripting (Shell/Bash, Python, Perl or other).
* Experience with DPI or packet broker technology.
* Experience with mobile and fixed‑line carrier‑grade voice/data services such as VoIP, IMS, 4G/5G data, or broadband services.
* Experience with encryption protocols (IPSEC, TLS).
* Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Docker).
* Experience with cloud deployments.
* Experience with Kubernetes and containerised methods of deploying software.
* Exposure to network monitoring tools.
* Experience working as a team lead.
Experience and Education Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in a technology‑related field (desired).
* 5 + years of experience in high‑tech, preferably telecom and large system deployments.
* Willingness and eligibility to obtain security clearance.
