The Role:
The role will contribute to the successful delivery of the Park Authority’s statutory planning function in relation to our work to deliver an efficient and outcome-focused Development Management Service. This is an exciting time to join our team. We are looking for someone who can handle a diverse range of planning applications as well as contribute to enhancing our support processes and innovative delivery of the service.
The Park continues to see a significant level of development interest across a wide and varied planning application workload – from a gold mine to affordable housing development, run-of-river hydro schemes, and hotel and tourism development – there is a lot going on.
The successful candidate will handle a range of our more complex planning applications to deliver timely planning decisions which will contribute to wider Park outcomes.
Our emerging Local Development Plan will be key for the delivery of our new Park Partnership Plan. It will include policies and priorities that will guide all future development decisions and our work to influence land use and investment that realizes our Vision for the Park to be a thriving place that is nature-positive and carbon-negative.
Responsibilities:
* Contribute to a positive and efficient Development Management service through the handling of planning and other related applications, and any resultant appeals, delivering timely planning decisions that contribute to wider Authority outcomes, including clear reporting of recommendations for Committee or Board decisions. Support other aspects of the Service including: facilitating positive enforcement of planning control; supporting online service delivery; and participating in rural development project activities.
* Ensure that the Planning Service operates to a high standard, including meeting performance targets and delivering excellent public service.
* Assist in developing strategies, policies, and guidance that support the delivery of the Development Management Service and inform wider Authority strategies and initiatives.
* Provide effective planning advice and information services, and support monitoring and information systems, including online e-planning services, to provide intelligence on planning and development in the Park.
* Support initiatives that promote understanding of planning issues and public involvement in the planning process.
* Establish partnerships, engagement, and consultation processes with other organizations and stakeholders to support planning priorities and outcomes.
Who we are looking for:
Your skills, abilities, and experience should include:
* Relevant experience, professionalism, and success in a development management service
* Knowledge of rural planning issues
* A Degree or equivalent in Planning
* Membership of RTPI or working towards MRTPI
* Commitment to sustainable development and protected area management principles
* A current UK Driving Licence
Ideally, but not essential, you’ll also have:
* Up-to-date knowledge of the Scottish Environmental and planning sector
