Overview
This fellowship is designed for an experienced orthopaedic clinician, who will benefit from a further period of development in the sub‑specialty of MSK Oncology, in preparation for a consultant role. The doctor will contribute to the provision of MSK Oncology orthopaedic surgery within the Trust.
The Fellowship can be designed around the training needs of the successful applicant, with opportunity for independent practice dependent on level of experience. The fellowship is BOOS accredited.
Responsibilities
* Assist in theatre lists, with potential for independent practice subject to experience and ability.
* Assessment of new patients, with consultant supervision.
* Clerk admissions where required and be responsible for the supervision of the junior team and day‑to‑day care of in‑patients.
* Attendance and supervision of ward rounds with junior fellow and specialist nurses.
* Discharge planning for in‑patients.
* Assist with any other aspects of patient care as appropriate.
* Lead in surgical planning, and assist in clinic preparation and MDT duties.
* Participate in audit and research.
* Rota duties Monday to Friday with time flexibility required within a normal working day. No hospital on‑call requirement.
Training and Working Environment
The Musculoskeletal Tumour Service at RJAH is one of the five Bone Sarcoma units commissioned by NHS England. It provides a comprehensive service in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours, and also provides a metastatic bone service. This appointment is to join the existing team of three consultants.
