Design Manager – West Midlands
Role Overview
Responsible for supporting project teams in the efficient delivery of project design to ensure the timely and Efficient procurement of my clients products and services in line with customer expectations and contractual requirements.
The role requires a flexible working approach with either assignment to a specific set of projects to lead the design activities or working with a Project Team providing ad-hoc support as required across multiple projects.
Duties include coordination of agreed design programme, management of technical risk, project design budget, performance and quality of appointed external design and engineering resources. Seamless collaboration with UK project delivery functions to deliver a repeatable customer experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Project design management and/or support Project team in accordance with My client UK contracted requirements of the customers design team – e.g. Structural Engineers, Architects, Acousticians, Thermal Engineers, Sustainability consultants, Façade Consultants etc.
* Manage external resources in conjunction with the Project Team to accomplish programme deadlines.
* Plan, manage and/or support the UK design process from receipt of customer instruction to
* approval of drawings and technical submissions to ensure project goals are achieved in a timely and efficient manner in line with agreed programme dates.
* At point of project allocation, identify, request and receive the minimum design information required to progress, escalating any omission and/or delay in such as appropriate
* Manage the project design programme and accountable for completion of the design tasks according to the agreed programme.
* Contribute to the de-risking of the product and design offer and compliance with the customer requirements – e.g. Employers Requirements, Contract, specification, third party standards, product range adherence, H&SQ matters and relevant approvals amongst others
* Where required, prepare and/or collate formal calculations and necessary design and technical reports required under the agreed scope of works, submitting and incorporating in a timely and efficient manner to ensure drawings are complete and technically accurate.
* Monitor and control the Design and Engineering budget of the project, ensuring the design is delivered on time and within budget and variations are identified, negotiated, agreed and processed with customers, project teams and external design resources.
* Manage and approve design applications for payment, reviewing work in progress against valuations.
* Attend and/or support project design team meetings with customers and/or their appointed design teams.
* Undertake or participate in tactical problem solving on projects, managing conflicts in information, performance requirements, product performance, procurement times and such like.
* Issue weekly progress reports and CRM records, communicating and escalating any risks likely to affect the programme of works to support the Design Team Manager and Senior Management Team.
* Responsible for the satisfactory performance of the UK external design resource appointed to the project, including delivery of services according to programme, quality control and non-conformances, dispute and resolution management, operating to my client’s values and in accordance with terms of engagement.
* Ensure all required project design and technical information is recorded and stored according to process and presented for inclusion in Operation and Maintenance manuals required for project completion.
