Carrington West is assisting their local authority client based in the Home Counties in their search for a GIS Officer on an initial 6-month contract, then rolling.
We are looking for a GIS Officer to provide a geospatial service to achieve the objectives and priorities laid out in our Corporate Plan and GIS/Data Strategy.
You will undertake a wide range of spatial data capture tasks to ensure our GIS data is accurate and up to date. You will also assist with data management tasks, ensuring that the data you capture is accessible to staff and external stakeholders via the applications we develop and support.
You will lead the development and integration of geospatial systems and capacity in the Council, paving the way for a permanent Geospatial team within a skilled and efficient wider GIS-user team.
Main Responsibilities
1. Shape and influence the Council to become more data-driven using technology and geographical systems.
2. Analyze and collect geographical data. Manage and present geographical data in various formats.
3. Challenge current use of geographical data within the Council and design new ways to publish and share this data internally and externally.
4. Spatially analyze and interpret data to provide intelligence for various users.
5. Deliver presentations and develop showcase content.
6. Respond to enquiries, schedule meetings, run reports, and ensure project tasks are completed.
7. Utilize ESRI / ArcGIS Pro / QGIS experience to develop our Enterprise/AGOL environment.
8. Expand our open data portal with new datasets, liaising with Ordnance Survey as needed to automate data extraction and publication.
9. Assist in upgrading our IDOX Uniform Mapping system to a web-based system for integration with our ESRI portal.
10. Build SQL scripts to extract data from databases like Oracle and MSSQL, and develop PowerBI / ArcGIS dashboards.
