Overview
CDDFT Pharmacy pride ourselves in working at the leading edge of clinical pharmacy practice and medicines management with our teams achieving national recognition for innovative, high-quality patient care. The successful post holders will be based at either Darlington Memorial Hospital or the University Hospital of North Durham but will be expected to cover roles at the other sites as detailed in the training schedule. They will also participate in the provision of our 7 days service.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the provision of a range of pharmaceutical services including: Dispensary, Medicines Management, Purchasing, Distribution, Ward top up service, Medicines Safety and Medicines Optimisation.
* Ensure all pharmacy duties are carried out in accordance with legal, ethical and professional guidelines and following departmental and Trust procedures to meet the needs of our patients.
* Undertake and complete the Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Apprenticeship and Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
* Undertake and complete the integrated Accuracy Checking Technician element of the training to accurately check dispensed medicines against a prescription.
* Train and work in the designated areas as set out in the Training & Development Schedule and complete the competencies required for each standard towards successful completion of the qualification.
* We have an opportunity for 2 pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians to undertake training to develop the skills and knowledge to become a registered Pharmacy Technician at the University Hospital of North Durham.
* Training will commence February 2026 with on-the-job training across pharmaceutical standards, under the supervision/professional direction of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician. Teaching is delivered by Bradford College towards completion of the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice.
Qualifications and eligibility
* You will hold the equivalent of four GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including mathematics, English language, science and another, or qualifications at the equivalent grade.
* From 9 April 2025 – Healthcare assistants: you must have a minimum of two years of experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to consider sponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria and have a current visa expiring within 3 months).
* If you are being interviewed you must accept an interview slot in the system to continue, even if you have arranged with the manager.
* You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated as essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks.
About us and locations
We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community-based settings and providing care in patients’ homes.
