We are a working with a leading Tier 1 main contractor with a proud history of delivering high-profile projects across commercial, residential, infrastructure, and public sectors. Due to continued growth and an expanding project pipeline, they are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Claims Officer to join their Commercial and Legal team.
Role Overview:
As a Claims Officer, you will play a key role in identifying, preparing, managing, and supporting the resolution of contractual claims and disputes across multiple projects. This role requires a strong understanding of construction contracts (NEC, JCT, etc.), excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with project, commercial, and legal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support project teams in the preparation and submission of contractual claims, including extensions of time, loss and expense, and variations.
* Analyse contracts, programme delays, cost implications, and correspondence to identify claim opportunities.
* Work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Planners, and Legal Counsel to build robust claims with supporting evidence.
* Maintain a claims register and provide regular reporting to senior commercial management.
* Assist in negotiations and dispute resolution processes, including adjudication or arbitration when necessary.
* Ensure claims are prepared in accordance with contractual requirements and submitted within specified timeframes.
* Keep up to date with industry developments and legal precedents relevant to construction claims.
Requirements:
* Proven experience in a similar role within a main contractor or consultancy, ideally in the UK.
* Strong working knowledge of standard construction contract forms (NEC, JCT, FIDIC).
* Background in quantity surveying, contract administration, or legal support within construction.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft persuasive and well-structured claim documents.
* High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
* Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law, or a related discipline preferred.
