Main duties of the job
Manage the dispensary team, including rotas, supervision, training, and appraisals
Ensure the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of prescriptions
Maintain stock control systems, including ordering, expiry date monitoring, and returns
Ensure full compliance with legal, professional, and NHS dispensing standards
Maximise dispensary income and ensure accurate reimbursement claims
Liaise with GPs, nurses, practice staff, and external healthcare professionals
Lead on audit, policy development, and quality improvement within the dispensary
Maintain and promote excellent standards of customer care

Job responsibilities
Job summary
To ensure theprovision of quick, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to thepatients, and to ensure effective financial control of the dispensary anddispensary stock. To promote new technologies to patients, that will improveefficiencies within the Dispensary.
Key tasks:
Managing the day to day running of the Dispensaryand the Dispensing staff.
Active patient engagement, always ensuring thatpatients are kept informed of any changes to the medication ordering processeswithin the surgery.
Promotion of the NHS App and encouraging patientsto sign up and order medications using the app.
Active engagement with existing and futurenational NHS plans for sustainability, such as the promotion of electronic repeatprescribing.
Attendance at, and input to, partners meetings(weekly).
Attendance at, and input to, the PatientParticipation Group Meetings (approx. 6 weekly).
Monthly checking of the drug tariff for price andcategory changes, checking MIMS for new or discontinued drugs, and followingup changes with drug company representatives where necessary
In association with the nominated partner,maintain and update the computerised Drug Directory, adding new drugs andmonitoring patient repeats.
Liaise with the Herts and West Essex IntegratedCare Board (ICB) Medicines Optimisation Team, as appropriate.
Sorting prescriptions, checking endorsements,preparing forms and submitting prescriptions monthly to the NHS PrescriptionServices; preparing vaccine list; dealing with prescriptions returned by the NHSPrescription Services
Create an open culture within the Dispensary,ensuring that all significant events regarding the dispensing of prescribeditems are recorded and discussed.
Fully participate in the significant events process,including investigation and process review to identify any training or learningneeds.
Ensure that Dispensary staff are always up to datewith their mandatory NHS training.
Ensure that Dispensary staff competencies areassessed and recorded at least annually and are revisited following any significantevents.
To develop and maintain standard operatingprocedures (SOPs) for all Dispensary processes, ensuring an annual documentedreview.
Ensure Dispensary staff are working in accordancewith the latest SOPs, with documented regular audits and checks to ensure qualitydispensing.
Participate fully in the Dispensing ServicesQuality Scheme, including ensuring that DRUMS and the annual audit arecompleted to satisfactory standards.

Experience
* Significant experience in a pharmacy or dispensary environment

* Experience using EMIS, SystmOne or equivalent

* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
* Management or supervisory qualification
