Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of IT Operations, this senior management role is part of the wider IT Operations leadership team. It is responsible for leading the IT test team, establishing strategic direction, and ensuring the efficient delivery of test services to IT teams and users.
Key Accountabilities
* Implement and embed the Test / QA team to improve delivery of change underpinning technology and end-user services.
* Inspire, support, develop, and grow your team to meet current and future organizational needs.
* Lead a team using agile and waterfall methodologies, promoting collaborative working.
* Coordinate with project leaders to allocate resources and deliver strategic testing roadmaps.
* Build and maintain cross-team relationships, ensuring governance and a unified team ethos.
* Drive continuous improvement of test processes, including adopting new tools like Test Automation and KPI-based testing.
* Facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding within the team.
* Embed test governance and support a cultural shift towards outperformance, e.g., 'Shift Left'.
* Nurture and develop team skills, identify gaps, and promote continuous improvement.
* Manage testing risks and issues, analyze impacts, and escalate as needed.
* Collaborate with HR and Procurement to ensure resource and vendor arrangements are in place.
* Manage relationships with suppliers for operational and BAU vendors.
* Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.
* Work with stakeholders to define and implement standard QA processes, promoting quality assurance culture.
* Continuously enhance the test function by learning from past projects and adopting best practices.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Experience building and leading high-performance multidisciplined test teams.
* Proven ability to implement standards, frameworks, and guardrails within a test team.
* Effective partnership with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to lead and motivate teams.
* Hands-on testing experience at various seniority levels.
* Experience with testing cycles like System Testing, Regression, UAT.
* Experience with Test Automation and Performance Testing in complex environments.
* Proven success in implementing automation test programs to improve coverage and quality.
* ISEB/ISTQB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing.
* Experience testing Web, Middleware, CRM, and critical applications.
* Over 5 years in testing roles and managing test functions.
* Experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
* Knowledge of release management processes.
* Strong stakeholder management and assertiveness skills.
* Budget management and forecasting experience.
Desirable
* Additional certifications like ISEB Intermediate, Practitioner, or ISTQB Advanced.
* ITIL Foundation certificate.
* Experience with Sitecore, D365, Azure DevOps, JIRA, and related tools.
* Experience working in a Product Team environment.
* Knowledge of risk-based testing techniques.
* Mentoring and project management experience.
