Specialist - Chemical Hazard Evaluation - 30921
We are recruiting a regulatory scientist to assess the environmental hazard and risk of industrial and consumer chemicals under the UK REACH and CLP Regulations.
Working in our Chemicals Assessment Unit (CAU), you will:
1. Evaluate the relevance and reliability of ecotoxicity and environmental fate data in chemical dossiers;
2. Summarize and present findings from environmental studies and models;
3. Describe test methods, noting data limitations and uncertainties;
4. Determine environmental classifications under CLP and assess compliance with UK REACH standards;
5. Conduct quality assurance reviews and provide alternative interpretations;
6. Contribute to setting priorities and identify research needs;
7. Support test guideline development and animal replacement methods;
8. Meet defined deadlines for deliverables;
9. Build collaborative relationships with colleagues and government bodies.
Responding to incidents is integral to this role. You will have an incident response role, with training provided and potential additional compensation.
The team is part of the Research division within the Chief Scientist’s Group, operating across multiple locations. We provide scientific support on environmental hazards and risks of chemicals, working with UK and global partners.
Experience/Skills Required
Applicants should hold a relevant scientific degree (e.g., chemistry, biology, environmental science) and have at least two years of experience in environmental effects or fate assessment of chemicals, either in industry or regulatory contexts. Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills are essential.
