Position
Financial Accountant: Public Sector
The role is within the Financial Control team and reports to the UK Head of Finance. It covers all aspects of finance, with a primary focus on revenue and costs relating to public sector clients.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold, or be currently pursuing, ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualifications, with recent and relevant finance experience.
Technical Skills
Strong IT skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics or SAP are essential.

Core Duties:
1. Approvals & Financial Control
2. Invoice approval at AP level, with a focus on costs relating to public sector clients
3. Support with AP and AR write‑offs and adjustments
4. Support the finance team with payment approvals
5. Month‑End Close Activities
6. Accruals and provisions
7. Reconciliations and controls (including passthrough costs)
8. Reallocations and cost attribution
9. Develop an in‑depth understanding of public sector clients’ gross margin
10. Reporting Responsibilities
11. ONS statistical reporting
12. Public sector open‑book ownership, adapting the model in line with evolving client requirements
13. Relationships
14. Work closely with the management accounts team and provide cover when required
15. Collaborate with shared services teams to understand O2C and P2P cycles and their impact on public sector reporting
16. Build strong working relationships with public sector operations and commercial account teams
17. Systems & Process Ownership
18. Support Chart of Accounts control
19. Maintain and update process documentation
20. Drive automation and continuous improvement initiatives
21. Compliance & Internal Governance
22. Support audit activities
23. Maintain policy governance
24. Maintain awareness of any taxation impacts, including VAT treatment, and highlight potential tax issues to ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and internal policies
