Position: Senior Portfolio Accountant / Team Leader
Location: Hybrid – London/Vauxhall (SW8), twice a week
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:30

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

Team Leadership & General Accountabilities

1. Lead by example, promoting Rendall & Rittner policies, procedures, and values.
2. Manage and mentor the office-based portfolio accounting team, from Assistant to Senior Portfolio Accountants, ensuring performance and compliance.
3. Foster an environment of learning, continuous improvement, and maximisation of team performance.
4. Make high-level decisions, exercising judgement to deliver effective solutions while considering broader organisational impact.
5. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers, employees, residents, and clients.
6. Handle confidential and sensitive information professionally.
7. Champion excellent customer service and continuous improvement across the team.

Team Accountabilities

8. Maintain accurate, compliant accounting records across property portfolios, including year-end accounts, cost reallocations, and variance analysis.
9. Prepare Profit & Loss accounts, Balance Sheets, statutory accounts, and other financial reports for internal stakeholders, boards, and external auditors.
10. Lead audits, liaising with external auditors, approving draft accounts, and supporting statutory filings.
11. Monitor cash flow, manage creditors, and oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance reporting.
12. Manage service charge accounting, including surplus/deficit reconciliations, tenant charges, demands, and ad hoc costs.
13. Provide guidance and support to colleagues and assist property managers with financial queries and projects.
14. Maintain and optimise accounting systems (Propman desirable) and advanced Excel tools for reporting and analysis.
15. Review handover information from previous agents and set up new clients on systems.
16. Interpret company policies, procedures, and legislation, providing clear advice where required.

Previous Experience Will Include:

17. Recognised accounting qualification or part-qualified (CIMA, ACCA, AAT) or equivalent experience.
18. Significant experience in an accounting role within the property sector.
19. Substantial supervisory or managerial experience.
20. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly.
21. Strong IT and numeracy skills, with advanced proficiency in Excel.
22. Experience using accounting systems; familiarity with Propman is desirable but not essential.
23. Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and prepare complex reports and plans, including financial reporting, budgeting, works scheduling, workload allocation, and performance planning.
