Catering Assistant – Newry
Hours: 7:30am–2:30pm and 1:00pm–8:00pm (must be able to work both shifts)
Days: Monday–Friday with occasional weekends
32.5 hours per week
£12.51 per hour Monday – Friday, £17.64 per hour Saturday and Sunday £22.90
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Catering Assistant to join our hospital catering team in Newry. This role involves supporting the delivery of high‑quality food services to patients, staff and visitors, with a strong focus on maintaining excellent hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Food Service & Support
1. Assisting with meal preparation and food service to patients and staff
2. Setting up, replenishing and maintaining food and beverage stations
3. Providing friendly, efficient customer service at all times
4. Ensuring dietary requirements and portion controls are followed correctly
Dishwash & Cleaning Duties
5. Operating and cleaning industrial dishwashers
6. Loading and unloading trays, utensils, crockery and equipment
7. Refilling detergent, rinse‑aid and other machine consumables
8. Pre‑rinsing and sorting items before washing
9. Cleaning sinks, wash‑up areas, work surfaces and floors
10. Safely disposing of waste and following infection‑control procedures
11. Reporting faults with dishwashing equipment
General Duties
12. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness across kitchen and service areas
13. Following all food hygiene, safety and infection‑control policies
14. Assisting colleagues and supporting smooth kitchen operations
About You
15. Previous catering or cleaning experience (hospital or healthcare desirable but not essential)
16. Ability to work both required shift patterns
17. Strong teamwork, reliability and a positive attitude
18. Understanding of food hygiene and safe working practices
