Position
Applications are invited for a fellowship‑trained Consultant in Paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. This is a full‑time Consultant appointment, making up a team of 2 full‑time and 1 part‑time Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultants in the Norwich Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit. Whilst this consultant post is primarily based at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals, the appointee will have regular fixed commitments at either the James Paget University Hospital, Great Yarmouth, or Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kings Lynn.
Equal Opportunity & Flexible Work
We welcome all applications irrespective of age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. Additionally, people with disabilities will be offered an interview providing they meet the minimum criteria for the post. The Trust operates job share and flexible working.
Collaboration & Mobility
All future senior medical and dental appointments will be expected to work in collaboration across the Group and, irrespective of initial job description and job plan, be willing to work on more than one hospital site, dependent on service needs. Service location may change as our future models of care are developed by our clinically led networks through our acute clinical strategy. Some of the clinical procedures or services the appointee will be expected to deliver may be based at sites other than their primary site of employment.
Unit Overview
The Norwich Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit is well established, with the new appointee joining a team of a total of 2 full‑time and one part‑time Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons, who are closely supported by two extended scope paediatric physiotherapists and two paediatric orthopaedic nurse specialists. Fortnightly MDT meetings are held with specialist paediatric and MSK radiologists, as well as a Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist. The Orthopaedic unit has a team of 5 Spinal surgeons, who manage the paediatric spinal deformities. There are weekly DDH and CTEV clinics, run jointly by the Consultants and the Extended Scope Physiotherapists. The ESPs also deliver normal variant clinics. Specialist clinics are also provided in Osteogenesis Imperfecta and Skeletal Dysplasias. Specialist paediatric anaesthetists make up a 24/7 paediatric anaesthetic on‑call rota, which along with a ward based HDU service allows for complex surgery to be performed at the hub hospital, without age restriction.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join the team at the NNUH in providing a high level of paediatric Trauma & Orthopaedic care to the region with both elective and emergency work at the hub hospital.
