Job Summary
This is a fixed‑term secondment position with a duration of 18 months until 30/04/2027. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee applying for a secondment, agreement from your current manager is required prior to application.
Location: Bronglais General Hospital, Caradog Road, Aberystwyth, SY23 1ER.
Responsibilities
* Provide Anaesthetic Practitioner support within a 24/7 Main Theatre rota, including day, twilight and night shifts.
* Work in a friendly, supportive environment focused on patient safety, excellence and staff well‑being.
* Hold an RGN/RN qualification or a Diploma/Degree in Operating Department Practice.
* Teach and mentor students and staff in ODP placement.
* Participate in the dedicated Education, Training and Development lead, and pursue further peri‑operative qualifications.
* Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) and ongoing training provided by the theatre education team.
* Support the induction programme, including a supernumerary preceptorship to meet competency requirements.
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
* RGN Level 1 or Registered Operating Departmental Practitioner.
* Specific clinical training/education related to Theatre/Recovery/Anaesthetics.
* Evidence of continued professional development to postgraduate diploma level.
* Expanded clinical nursing skills.
* Willingness to undertake an in‑house leadership development programme within the next two years.
* Willingness to undertake other training essential to the role.
Desirable Qualifications
* Management/Leadership programme.
* BSc (in a health‑related subject) or willingness to work toward one.
* Certificate/diploma in orthopaedic or trauma nursing.
* Teaching and assessing module.
* Recognised critical care course/module.
* Clinical supervision module.
Experience
* Post‑registration experience in the relevant clinical field.
* Multiskilled competencies within the operating department.
Language Skills
* Welsh speaker (Level 1) – desirable.
* English required; bilingualism encouraged.
Additional Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
* Current UK professional registration.
* Welsh Language support available for non‑speakers to meet minimal requirements.
* Right to work in the UK; skilled worker sponsorship considered.
