Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a motivated Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion at University Hospitals Dorset. The role requires professionalism, reliability, innovation and flexibility.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will rotate through all sections of the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department and be expected to support the 24/7 shift system.

Key responsibilities include:

• Validation of results
• Maintenance, running and troubleshooting of equipment and automation
• Stock management
• Performing EQA and IQA
• Manual tests and blood film morphology
• Supporting out‑of‑hour services

Person specification

Qualifications

• Completed Accredited BSc in Biomedical Science
• Registration with HCPC

Experience

• Demonstrable experience in Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion
• Experience in a UKAS and MHRA approved laboratory
• Desire to complete IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology with Hospital Transfusion Practice
• Good interpretive skills at bench level
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with common IT software
• Experience with database, spreadsheet and Quality Management Software
• Familiarity with Winpath software

Knowledge

• Willingness and ability to learn new skills
• Active participation in CPD
• Strong understanding of Haematology, Coagulation and Transfusion science

Other requirements specific to the role

• Desire and ability to relocate to the area
