Job Description

We're looking for an EC&I Hardware Designer to support the delivery of complex control and automation systems within the nuclear sector. The role can be based at either Warrington or Cumbria on a hybrid basis (2-3 days)BPSS clearance is required for this role.***Only apply if you are a British Citizen and passport holder, and not have worked outside the UK during the past 5 years.***We are a leading engineering organisation delivering complex, safety-critical control and automation systems within the nuclear sector. Our work demands high standards of technical excellence, safety, and delivery performance.You'll be joining a collaborative, technically strong team where engineers are trusted to take ownership, challenge assumptions, and deliver robust solutions in a regulated environment.This role focuses on the design and development of control system hardware, including enclosures, panels, and interface systems. You'll work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team, contributing to high-quality, safety-critical projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.Work on safety-critical, high-integrity projectsBe involved in end-to-end hardware design, not just drawing updatesCollaborate with experienced engineers across electrical, control, and mechanical disciplinesOpportunity to build experience within a highly regulated engineering environmentROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:Design and develop electrical enclosures, control panels, and interface systemsProduce detailed AutoCAD drawings and design packagesDevelop and manage:General AssembliesI/O schedulesCable calculations and routingPower load and heat calculationsSupport design reviews, site visits, and engineering assessmentsWork closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are delivered toa high standardProduce supporting documentation including test specifications, installation methodStatements, inspection reports, testing of manufactured equipment to associated drawings and quality recordsESSENTIAL CRITERIA:Strong experience using AutoCAD for electrical designExperience delivering EC&I hardware design within engineering projectsExperience designing control panels, MCCs, or electrical enclosuresKnowledge of IET Wiring Regulations and CDM RegulationsUnderstanding of cable routing, panel layouts, and system integrationStrong communication skills and ability to work within a project teamDESIRABLE:Experience with PLC / HMI / SCADA systemsExperience in regulated industries (e.g. nuclear, defence, pharma)Familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g. IEC 61508)Knowledge of Sellafield standardsDegree/HNC (or equivalent experience) in Electrical / EC&I EngineeringADDITIONAL:UK travel required at key project stages (e.g. site visits and commissioning).
