Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a neuropsychiatrist to work at The Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy as a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist for a 1 year fixed term.
Main Duties
As a consultant Neuropsychiatrist you will run a specialist weekly clinic over a day at the Chalfont Specialist Centre for Epilepsy. In addition to the clinic you may occasionally review inpatients in the telemetry unit or on the ward following admission under Consultant Neurologists for Epilepsy. The clinic will consist of approximately 7 patient reviews with 40 minutes allocated for clinic administration. You will also contribute to research, teaching and clinical governance activities of the department.
Qualifications & Experience
* MRCPsych (or equivalent)
* On GMC Specialist List in Psychiatry or within 6 months of expected date of CCT
* Eligible for Full UK GMC Registration or equivalent on GMC Psychiatry Register within 6 months of expected date of CCT
* Knowledge of current changes in the management and organisational structure of the NHS
* Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS
* Completed a period of training and experience in Neuropsychiatry
* Experience in assessing and treating patients with functional neurological symptoms
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team and understanding of the different roles
* Excellent understanding of the needs of people with complex conditions and learning disability
* Understanding of patient‑centred care and self‑care approach
* Appropriate to a consultant psychiatrist, demonstrating ability to manage neuropsychiatric patients, including clinical risk
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service, and to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, nurses, GPs and other agencies
* Knowledge of principles of clinical governance, staff appraisal and a demonstrable interest in research (evidence by research grants/publication)
* Experience in supervisory teaching of doctors in training
* Demonstrated understanding of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties
Desirable
* PhD, MSc or higher degree
* Higher trainee or consultant experience in a recognised neuropsychiatric post
* Experience obtaining significant experience in the management of patients with complex neuropsychiatric problems within an interdisciplinary / multispecialty team
* Demonstrated ability to work within an interdisciplinary / multispecialty service and to identify and organise specific clinical investigations and onward referrals relevant to the post
* Ability to work within an interdisciplinary / multispecialty service
Salary and Contract
* Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year per annum + 5% London weighting (fringe)
* Contract: Fixed term, 12 months
* Working pattern: Part‑time
