Our Monitoring Certification Scheme (MCERTS) for environmental permit holders is an essential component of our permitting and regulatory approach. MCERTS sets out the framework for permit holders to meet the Environment Agency’s quality requirements for emissions monitoring. We are recruiting a specialist to support the development, implementation, and review of our MCERTS standards for stack emissions monitoring. Your responsibilities will include: Helping shape and update the content and technical details of MCERTS standards, drafting documents as required Responding to queries from Environment Agency staff, operators, and consultants regarding MCERTS standards for stack emissions and continuous monitoring Presenting technical information to diverse audiences confidently Representing the Environment Agency on MCERTS emissions standards with external groups, including regulators, stakeholders, certification bodies, and UKAS Keeping abreast of and influencing international developments in emissions monitoring standards, and communicating relevant information within the Agency Project managing monitoring studies to improve stack emissions monitoring of pollutants Supporting monitoring studies led by colleagues in related teams Our MCERTS team provides expert advice on monitoring emissions to air, water, and land from industrial processes. We manage the Environment Agency’s MCERTS schemes. The Team You will work within the MCERTS team, part of Monitoring and Assessment in the Chief Regulator’s Group. Our dispersed team collaborates across the country, promoting a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued. We leverage evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to deliver and influence policy, legislation, and resource allocation. Experience/Skills Required Demonstrate your ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures, actively encouraging consideration of diversity issues. You should have developed expertise in stack emissions monitoring (ideally MCERTS Level 2) and possess a good understanding of: Periodic and continuous emissions monitoring equipment Standards and requirements for stack emissions monitoring MCERTS accreditation and certification You should be skilled in: Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders Influencing outcomes through effective relationships Communicating technical information clearly and accessibly Managing tasks and projects to challenging deadlines A degree or equivalent in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline is required. We offer development opportunities and training. Additional Information You will have an inclusive incident management objective in your development plan, with support to find a suitable role. Appropriate training will be provided. The role offers flexible/hybrid working with an Environment Agency Office base, with some travel possibly required.
