Department overview
The UoB Sport & Fitness department is part of the Campus Services Directorate within the University Sport has always played a key role at University of Birmingham; it is in our DNA. The University was a founder member of what is now known as BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) in 1919 and since rankings began in 1953 we have consistently place in the top 8 for student competition. We offered the first sport-based degree in 1946, and sport continues to be an important part of campus life today. The sport offer we deliver at Birmingham is broad. Through our facilities, programmes and expertise we engage with students, staff, alumni and the local community accommodating in excess of over 1.5 million visits per year. Our offering caters for first experience of sport, to Olympic & Paralympic athlete level. We are a service orientated department with financial targets, focussing on operational excellence and ensuring all our user groups have a great experience whilst adding value to the wider University objectives.
Role Summary
The Digital Engagement and Business Development Executive is responsible for implementing lead generation and marketing campaigns based on analysis and insights to drive income across UoB Sport & Fitness. Revenue opportunities include ambitious membership targets, facilities, participation programmes, student clubs, scholarships and our Raymond Priestly Centre in Coniston. The post holder will work with the team to develop and uphold both the University and Sport brand identity and reputation working towards Sport Strategic goals outlined in the 2025 Sports Strategy.
1. Lead on managing effective marketing campaigns for memberships, facilities, participation programmes, student clubs, scholarships and our Raymond Priestly Centre in Coniston.
2. Create, implement and manage the Insights, Analytics & SEO strategy for the UoB Sport & Fitness website ensuring exceptional performance in search rankings.
3. Work with team to operationalise business development opportunities across UoB Sport & Fitness including the generation of leads and opportunities for major Campus Service Events
4. Implement UoB Sport & Fitness annual communication plan including drafting at pace membership and user regular communications.
5. Liaise with the relevant agencies, media and contractors to plan and book marketing and promotional activity.
6. Manage the UoB Sport & Fitness website content, ensuring it is up to date, optimised for search engines, consistent with the brand guidelines and WCAG AA Standard.
7. Lead on the marketing campaigns for recruitment of student-athletes, working closely with the Sport Performance team.
8. Manage, motivate and develop direct reports working closely with External Relations and Campus Services marketing teams to align marketing messages, identify and share opportunities through functional coordination
9. Manage and execute Recruitment and Open Days, Sports Awards, Hall of Fame and other key strategic events across Sport.
10. Develop and standardise Commercial Sponsorship across clubs, pitches and programmes
11. Promotes equality and values diversity, acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
12. Supports the University's sustainability agenda through resource efficient working.
13. Any other duties commensurate with the grade.
Required Knowledge, Desirable Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications)
* Excellent communication skills and experience of drafting user comms.
* Digital knowledge around paid search, paid social and web development.
* Experience working in a complex fast paced environment.
* Experience of business development across a wide-range of programmes and facilities to an extensive and varied demographic.
* Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly, and to analyse information and data.
* Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
