We are looking to welcome a Healthcare Assistant to join ourdynamic and supportive team at Humberstone Medical Centre. This vacancy is for 15-24hours per week, depending on experience. Main duties of the job
Healthcare Assistants play an important role, complementing thenursing team, and other members of the practice multi-disciplinary team.
The HCAs core role responsibilities will cover clinical,and technical and administrative categories.

Job responsibilities
The following are the core responsibilities of theHealthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry outother tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffinglevels:
Supportthe Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes
Carryout baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperatureand pulse rate, recording findings accurately
Facilitateroutine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
Undertakewound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
Supportthe Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
Carryout BMI checks as directed
Act asa chaperone as required
Whentrained, undertake venepuncture
Whentrained, administer flu vaccinations
Whentrained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the Practice Nurse
Carryout ECGs as requested
Ensurespecimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
Providesupport during minor operations as required
Ensureall clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
Ensurefridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
Ensureclinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced inaccordance with the organisations IPC policy
Deliveropportunistic health promotion where appropriate
In addition to the primaryresponsibilities, the HCA may be requested to
Participate in practiceaudit as directed by the audit lead Participate in localinitiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
Support and participate inshared learning within the practice
Complete opening and closing procedures inaccordance with the duty rota
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Previous completion of the HCA Care Certificate as detailed within GP Mythbuster No 57 - HCAs in General Practice
* Venepuncture
Knowledge and skills
* ECGs
* New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse
* Chaperone procedure
* Wound care/removal of sutures and staples
* Ability to record accurate clinical notes on Systmone/EMIS
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
* Clear, polite telephone manner
* Effective time management (planning and organising)
* Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
* Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
* Flexible and cooperative
* Basic IT skills
* Awareness of blood-borne viruses
Experience
* A minimum of one year's experience of working in a primary care setting
* Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
* Experience of working within a nursing team
* Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Experience of using SystmOne and ICE
