Overview
The Kitchen Porter/Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth running of the kitchen by supporting chefs and other staff. They are responsible for ensuring cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation in all kitchen areas, as well as assisting with basic food preparation when required.
Key Responsibilities
* Wash, dry, and store pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
* Maintain cleanliness of kitchen surfaces, floors, and storage areas.
* Operate dishwashing machines and handle chemicals safely.
* Collect and dispose of waste and recycling in accordance with procedures.
* Receive, check, and store food deliveries correctly.
* Assist chefs with basic food preparation (e.g., peeling, chopping, portioning).
* Ensure compliance with health & safety and food hygiene standards.
* Support kitchen staff to ensure smooth service during busy periods.

* Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
* Good team player with strong communication skills.
* Reliable, punctual, and organised.
* Willingness to perform manual and sometimes physically demanding tasks.
* Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety (training provided).
