Regimental Headquarters consists of a Senior Executive Officer Regimental Secretary with Business Support, Communications, Engagement, Digital /Information Management, Heritage and Veterans departments each headed up by a Higher Executive Officer. The Welfare Officer is responsible for all aspects of welfare of the Regiment in line with Army policy. You will be line managed by the Regimental Secretary. RHQ (Regimental Headquarters) focus is to provide material support to all SCOTS soldiers and their families, whether they are serving or retired. In addition, you will be expected to lead/be a team member on bespoke projects that might be outside of the welfare space but are key to enabling the headquarters to function and deliver its core outputs. In summary, the Welfare Officer post is a demanding one requiring energy, dedication, and initiative and above all the ability to function at a high level as part of a wider team. Key responsibilities: In conjunction with health care organisations and battalion welfare teams, track and monitor casualties. If required conduct visits to sick and injured personnel. Prior to deployment of a Battalion, the Welfare Officer should conduct a unit visit offering advice and support. This will include briefing soldiers and their families on who does what after an operational death or casualty evacuation from theatre. Liaise with appropriate service charities to almonise financial support for serving soldiers, their families and veterans including dependants. Provide advice and support with housing, finance and job training for those about to be routinely or medically discharged. Liaison with the Bereavement and Aftercare Service, Casualty Notification Officer and Visiting Officer in regard of operational and non-operational deaths including liaison with Next of Kin (NOK) and Emergency Contact (EC). Provide continuity of long-term aftercare support to bereaved families. Act as the Regimental focal point for matters relating to the casualty notification system when dealing with seriously injured, very seriously injured and deaths. Responsible for all welfare related content within Regimental Standing Orders. Ensure that the Regimental Adjutant is kept informed of any new policy or procedures introduced across the army. Regimental lead on the planning and facilitating presentation of Elizabeth Cross to Next of Kin. Welfare Officer for Civil Service staff. Lead/team member on bespoke projects. Person specification Essential skills required: Be a capable leader and collaborator as it plays a meaningful role in this closely knit Headquarters that is crucial for the health of our Regiment and our wider Regimental family. To be credible, and have the knowledge and experience to manage all welfare related matters. Highly motivated, proactive, dynamic, able to set clear priorities and work with little supervision, produce high end products and have a sharp eye of detail.
