Job Description
A well-established environmental and geological consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Hydrogeologist to join its Geological Services team.
This is a senior role suited to someone who enjoys combining technical expertise, project leadership, and team mentoring while working on complex environmental and hydrogeological projects across a range of sectors.
You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality technical work, managing multidisciplinary projects, and supporting the strategic development of the department. Principal Consultant
The Role
You will be responsible for leading and delivering a range of geological and hydrogeological projects, including environmental planning, land quality, groundwater investigations, and environmental permitting work.
Typical responsibilities include:
* Managing geological, hydrogeological and hydrological assessments for a range of industrial, mineral, waste and property developments
* Supervising site investigations, including groundwater, surface water and ground gas monitoring programmes
* Reviewing and interpreting environmental data, reports and technical documentation
* Managing project teams and ensuring quality assurance across project outputs
* Preparing technical reports, risk assessments and modelling outputs
* Providing expert advice to clients, regulators and project stakeholders
* Supporting complex multidisciplinary projects, including those with legal or regulatory components
* Contributing to departmental planning, resourcing and strategic development
* Mentoring and managing junior staff and supporting their professional development
* Managing project budgets, programmes and commercial delivery
About You
To be considered for this role, you will likely have:
* A degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline
* A postgraduate qualification in Hydrogeology (desirable)
* Chartered status or membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. Geological Society)
* Significant experience in hydrogeology, environmental consultancy or land quality
* Strong experience managing complex site investigations and environmental risk assessments
* Experience using specialist hydrogeological modelling or risk assessment software
* Proven project management and budget control experience
* Previous line management or mentoring experience
* Excellent written reporting and client communication skills
* A UK driving licence
