We’re hiring an Assistant Director to lead DDaT strategy and portfolio. You’ll align vision, architecture and delivery, run a transparent change portfolio, and make sure every pound and programme drives measurable outcomes for nature. You align the strategy, shape the roadmap, and give teams the clarity and confidence to deliver.
What you’ll do
* Build and land a robust Digital & Technology strategy aligned to mission and long-term goals.
* Provide senior oversight across business, application, data and infrastructure; set standards for scalability, innovation and cost-effectiveness; coach the architecture function.
* Define DDaT objectives and OKRs; maintain dashboards; link portfolio performance to organisation outcomes.
* Plan and coordinate business transformation; manage risk, adoption and benefits realisation.
* Embed governance, risk management and benefits tracking across the change lifecycle.
* Establish technology risk frameworks; lead GDPR, cybersecurity and IT governance (ITIL, COBIT).
* Set and improve delivery standards across the pipeline; champion Agile, DevOps and Lean.
* Monitor policy, tech and societal trends; inform investment choices and partnership opportunities.
* Convene planning forums; secure buy-in; represent digital priorities with executives, funders and partners.
* Build business cases and forecasts; track ROI; align spend to strategy and value for money.
What you’ll bring
* Extensive experience in IT/digital strategy, business strategy or technology consulting, with enterprise-level strategy delivery.
* Proven leadership of cross-functional teams delivering transformation and IT-enabled change.
* Deep understanding of digital transformation and how to leverage it for operational resilience and growth.
* Strong grasp of IT governance and compliance (ITIL, COBIT, GDPR) and cybersecurity practices.
* Experience running PoCs and working with external partners (vendors, technology providers, consultants).
* Credible senior stakeholder management, including suppliers, delivery partners and regulators.
* Data-driven portfolio management using objectives, KPIs/OKRs and performance dashboards.
Useful extras
* Certifications: CSM/ACP, TOGAF, ITIL/COBIT, PMP/PRINCE2.
* Emerging tech familiarity: cloud, AI/ML, big data, IoT, blockchain.
* Sector background in nonprofit, public sector or mission-driven organisations.
