Job Description
As our Head of Underwriting, you will oversee funding and team management for our Charles Street division, which successfully supports professional property developers, investors, and SMEs in accessing bespoke funds for various property-based lending including bridging finance, buy-to-let, commercial mortgages, development loans, and sub-charge loans.
This role focuses on leading and mentoring the underwriting team to develop a high-performing unit that makes sound underwriting decisions and delivers excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
* Lead, motivate, and manage the underwriting team through 1-2-1s, skills gap analysis, appraisals, training, and coaching to improve performance and develop colleagues.
* Implement effective case management processes to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, providing a best-in-class service.
* Monitor and report on team performance using KPIs to celebrate successes and identify areas for improvement.
* Underwrite cases personally, demonstrating sound judgment and thorough analysis to mitigate risk and align with lending criteria.
* Identify process improvements to address bottlenecks and delays, enhancing speed and customer experience.
Qualifications
Essential
* Extensive commercial underwriting experience.
* Significant management experience within an underwriting team.
* Skilled in coaching, upskilling, supporting, and managing a high-performing team.
* Strategic planning skills to determine resource needs and implement effective workflows.
* Ability to influence at all organizational levels.
Desirable
* Experience with bridging and term loans.
