Teaching Assistant - Special Educational Needs
We are seeking caring, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants to join a supportive and forward-thinking specialist education setting. This role involves supporting pupils across a wide range of special educational needs, so flexibility, patience and a genuine passion for SEN are essential.
About the role
Teaching Assistants work closely with teachers and therapists to support pupils both in class and through targeted interventions, helping young people to engage with learning, develop independence and achieve their individual goals. Support may be 1:1, in small groups or within whole-class settings, depending on need.
You will support pupils with a diverse range of needs, including:
Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Severe and complex learning difficulties
Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
ADHD and attention-related needs
Sensory processing differences
Social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH)
Physical and medical needs, where appropriateThe setting adopts a highly personalised, trauma-informed and therapeutic approach, with strong multi-disciplinary working alongside specialist staff.
We are looking for someone who:
Has experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, care or support settings)
Is calm, adaptable and able to respond positively to challenging situations
Understands that behaviour is a form of communication
Works well as part of a team and values consistency and structure
Is keen to learn and develop within a specialist environmentExperience across multiple SEN needs is highly desirable, though applicants with transferable skills and a strong interest in SEN are also encouraged to apply.
