Overview
Engineering Shift Lead – Finsbury Food Group, Salisbury (Nicholas & Harris). Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm with 24/7 leadership responsibilities across day and night shifts. Location: Nicholas & Harris, Salisbury, SP2 7PU. Remote / Hybrid: Occasional hybrid working depending on operational requirements. Salary: Competitive with opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities
* Lead, coach, and support a team of multiskilled engineers across all shifts, ensuring high performance and strong communication.
* Oversee both planned and reactive maintenance, balancing priorities to maintain high levels of plant uptime and reliability.
* Ensure compliance with the Preventative Maintenance Plan (PPM) through effective use of the Ultimo CMMS system.
* Analyse engineering downtime, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions to improve asset care and performance.
* Use engineering data and KPIs to validate results, prioritise workload, and inform decision-making.
* Support continuous improvement projects to enhance safety, quality, service, cost efficiency, and sustainability.
* Promote a strong engineering culture built on safety, accountability, and teamwork.
* Collaborate closely with Operations, Technical, HSE, Compliance, Ops Support and external contractors to deliver engineering excellence.
* Ensure all engineering activities meet food safety, hygiene, and statutory compliance standards.
Qualifications
Essential
* A minimum NVQ Level 3 in an engineering sector; an HNC/HND in Engineering or Leadership is highly desirable, with any additional relevant qualifications considered an advantage.
* Proven experience leading or supervising a multiskilled engineering team within manufacturing.
* Strong technical understanding of asset care, reliability principles, and engineering best practice.
* Confident using CMMS systems (Ultimo experience highly beneficial).
* Strong influencing, communication, and coaching capability.
* Ability to analyse technical data and make informed, practical decisions.
* Highly organised, proactive, and able to lead effectively across a 24/7 operation.
* A solid understanding of PPM, health and safety legislation, and engineering compliance.
Desirable
* Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG.
* Knowledge of continuous improvement tools or approaches.
* Understanding of bakery processes and automation systems.
* Experience with small-scale projects or improvement initiatives.
