Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for a Finance / Accountancy Officer to join Conwy County Borough Council’s Corporate Finance Team (Schools Support). This is a temporary contract for 3-6 months with a view to extend.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting schools across the borough, providing financial expertise and ensuring that Headteachers and Governing Bodies have the guidance they need to manage their budgets effectively.
Key Responsibilities

Provide financial support and advice to Headteachers and Governing Bodies in line with Service Level Agreements.

Assist in preparing annual budgets for Primary, Secondary, and Special Schools.
*
Contribute to the closure of year-end accounts and the production of final accounts.
*
Support schools with financial projections to maximise resources and improve efficiency.
*
Carry out regular school visits, providing guidance on budgets, interpreting reports, and resolving administrative or financial issues.
*
Investigate and respond to financial queries from schools, suppliers, contractors, and internal colleagues.
*
Maintain financial reporting systems, including monthly reconciliations with the Authority’s ledger.
*
Ensure compliance with VAT regulations, Financial Regulations, and Contract Standing Orders.
*
Provide assistance on creditor payments, order logging, and adherence to financial procedures.
*
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and financial practices.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
*
Association of Accounting Technicians qualification (AAT) or equivalent/part-qualified.
*
Good knowledge of accountancy/numeracy, with the ability to analyse and present financial information.
*
Strong IT skills, including experience with financial systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
