About The Role
This post requires a contribution to teaching and student assessment and supervision in mathematics, primarily at undergraduate level, in the Department of Mathematics and across the School of Mathematics and Computer Science where required, in addition to sharing organisational and academic administrative responsibilities. The precise contribution will be determined by the Head of Department and Programme Director for Mathematics, considering the post-holder’s experience and expertise, but it is likely to be focused on tutorials, lectures, and computer labs and may involve computational components. The post requires high quality delivery of teaching and student learning and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience. Previous teaching experience is welcome, but not essential. There may be an opportunity or requirement to contribute to taught postgraduate teaching and assessment.
This is a one-year fixed-term position established to provide temporary teaching cover for a staff member undertaking a one-year research fellowship, and to provide teaching support to a further colleague to enable them to focus on developing a new online programme.
The Department of Mathematics at Swansea University is highly rated for both teaching and research: it was ranked 3rd in the UK for Student Satisfaction in the Complete University Guide 2025, 7th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2025, and in REF 2021, it was ranked joint 16th in the UK for the overall quality of its research and joint top for impact, with 100% of impact cases rated as world leading and 100% of the department’s publications rated as world-leading and internationally excellent. The department is home to six research groups: Algebra, Geometry and Topology, Analysis and Nonlinear PDEs, Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, Probability, Research in Mathematics Education. Since September 2018, the department has been based of the Bay Campus in the new £31M purpose-built Computational Foundry, the home of School of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Welsh Language Skills
The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
