The role
Midday Assistants are responsible for helping with the care and supervision of children in school during the midday period between morning and afternoon sessions. The work will be carried out in the dining area (school hall), the classrooms, the playground and field and in areas throughout the school.
Main Duties and Responsibilities include:
* Dining Area
* Setting out tables and chairs
* Control of children queuing to collect their food (including control of noise using systems agreed)
* Supervise handwashing, if required
* Supervision and control of table behaviour and assisting children where necessary eg cutting up food, opening packets etc
* Supervising the return of dirty dishes and collection of left dishes
* Wiping chairs and tables
* Putting away tables and chairs
Playground and other areas
* Care and supervision of children in playgrounds and other parts of the school, including toilets
* Disciplining children following the school behaviour policy
* During indoor lunchtimes, encouraging children to participate in appropriate activities by initiating, leading and participating in activities
* Encourage the children to line up sensibly and quietly and the end of of breaktime
First Aid
* To be responsible for reporting all accidents, informing teachers as appropriate and completing pupil accident forms
* To deal with simple cases of first aid and report serious cases to the school first aiders
General
* To respect confidentiality at all times
* To attend relevant training and half termly meetings with the headteacher
* To alert the headteacher of any concerns regarding individuals or groups of children
